-Los propietarios y la compa/nia que techaba el edificio no estuvieron pendientes al area donde se trabajaba con antorchas y breas en el proceso de impermeabilizacion del techo del edificio.
-Las siamesas y las bocas de incendio de la Gonzalez Giusti y la Tabonuco estaban sin agua, se tuvo que tirar mangas a casi una cuadra de distancia.

Si se preguntan porque las intoxicaciones iniciales, denle una mirada a donde ubicaba el camion bomba que primero respondio a la escena del incendio:
El que no tuviese una mascarilla de organicos como minimo o un SCBA tendria la madre de las irritaciones. La tercera foto ya es con el fuego bastante adelantado y el humo azota mi edificio a to' fuete.
Esto me trae a viejas discusiones de este blog. Vemos un Katrina, un Haiti o un Chile y nos decimos, eso no pasaria aqui. Explotan tanques en CAPECO y todavia decimos, estamos listos para manejar lo que sea. Es asi? Lamentablemente lo dudo mucho.
Esperamos que todo lo resuelva el gobierno de turno. Necesitamos campa/nas bonitas para recordar que somos hospitalarios con el extranjero. Que nos pasa Puerto Rico? Puerto Rico Lo Hace Mejor. Y eso lo logra nuestra condicion de colonizados. Los programas de mantengo convirtieron al puertorrique/no autosuficiente en una barriga ambulante. Es ahora mas facil vivir de cupones y Plan 8 que fajarse un doble turno de supervisor en un fast food.
Mi tema de hoy es la hipocresia y el relativismo moral que nos esta matando. Esto no es exclusivo a Puerto Rico y surgio durante los rescates de Katrina y los alegatos de que Bush dejo a su suerte a la poblacion mayormente negra de la zona. Ese fue el issue con Kayne West y sus comentarios en el telemaraton (del 2005):

And you know that it’s been five days, because most of the people are black. And even for me to complain about it, I would be a hypocrite because I’ve tried to turn away from the TV, because it’s too hard to watch. Ahora comparamos los reportes noticiosos de los terremotos en Haiti y en Chile. Los Haitianos saquean, los Chilenos se abastecen de lo que pueden. Sin embargo hacen exactamente lo mismo, rompen cristales para coger mercancia de las tiendas.
El problema es que si solo fuesen materiales y alimentos, pero plasmas? bancos? Eso es ser miserable y aprovecharse de la situacion. No mires con ojos criticos, es lo que haria la gente aqui en un huracan o terremoto de gran intensidad. Vivimos buscando la excusa para salir de listos. Recuerdo todavia la pseudocrisis de la gasolina en una huelga de camioneros hace par de a/nos atras. En aquel momento la gente peleaba por la fila de la gasolinera. Que creen que pasara cuando se detengan envios por una semana? Puerto Rico no es autosuficiente. Botamos nuestros terrenos de cultivo, reemplazandolas con cemento. Debemos fortalecernos para actuar con entereza en estos momentos de crisis. No somos bestias peleando por sobras.

By no means is it just a bunch of people trying to feed themselves: "...many residents in the most damaged areas have not only taken food from supermarkets, but also robbed banks, set fires and engaged in other forms of lawlessness."
Haiti, on the other hand, remains fairly orderly and there have been reports that police corruption has gone down significantly.
One implication here is that I fundamentally distrust the use of "social trust" or "social capital" indicators in cross-country growth regressions. Repeat three times after me: context-dependence, context-dependence, context-dependence. The lessons for social science run deep.
My deeper worry is that this event will change Chile and set it back more than the damage alone would indicate. It will alter their self-image and national unity could decline. An alternative story is that Chile will become more progressive, as there will be greater common knowledge of income divisions and it will be harder to pretend everything is just fine.
Maybe it is a sign of social health to have some looting after an earthquake. In this part of blogland we do not dismiss the counterintuitive conclusion out of hand. For instance perhaps Haiti is so orderly because a) looters would be killed on the spot, and b) the entire fate of the nation is at stake and thus every small event is taken very seriously. Neither factor is exactly good news.

Those comments were largely spurred by a pair of photos that made their way around the internet at the time. One of a black man in New Orleans wading through water with a caption that said "a young man walks through chest deep water after looting a grocery store" and another photo moved the same day by the Associated Press of a white man and woman captioned "two residents wade through chest-deep water after finding bread and soda from a local grocery store."
Though the two pictures were taken and captioned by different agencies, with different internal standards and styles, they fueled allegations of racism in media coverage. Similar allegations are surfacing now.
